The quick answer
To remove the room behind your reaction, open the camera background controls in ScreenDuo Edit and choose Remove. The camera subject sits over the composition, so the gameplay or other video can show around you. ScreenDuo version 1.2 lists camera background removal in Edit on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
Use Blur if you want the room to stay visible but less distracting, or Original to keep the full camera frame. For a complete recording workflow, see how to make a reaction video on iPhone.
Choose the effect that fits your video
- Original: keeps the full camera image and room behind you.
- Blur: softens the room while keeping a rectangular camera area.
- Remove: cuts out the camera subject so the underlying canvas shows around you.
Background removal is not the same as chroma key. You do not need a physical green backdrop for ScreenDuo's Remove effect. A real green-screen workflow uses a colored backdrop and a chroma-key tool.
Start with a camera layer
- Choose footage you may use. Start with your own gameplay or a permitted video saved in Photos or Files. A public stream link is not a reusable video file or permission to repost it.
- Record your camera pass. ScreenDuo can play a saved video while recording your camera over it. For the full source-preparation and commentary workflow, read the iPhone reaction-video guide.
- Open the result in Edit. Select the camera layer, choose its background effect, and preview Remove alongside Blur and Original.
- Place yourself around useful details. Move or resize the camera so it does not hide a minimap, subtitles, score, or the moment you are explaining.
Check the cutout before recording a long take
Preview a moving section, not only a still frame. Turn your head and move your hands; watch for hair or fingers disappearing and background fragments around your shoulders. Even lighting and some separation between you and the room can make the result easier to read.
If the edges distract from your point, try a simpler background, improve the lighting, reduce the camera size, or switch to Blur or Original. A smaller, clear camera view can work better than a large cutout that competes with the gameplay.
Review the whole composition
Play the full sequence and make sure your camera stays away from the information viewers need. Check the framing at phone size and listen to the source and your commentary together. Background removal changes the camera layer; it does not grant permission to use game or streamer footage. Use a source you created or have permission to publish.
If your camera is already permanently baked into a flattened recording, it cannot be separated afterwards. For an existing screen recording where you can add a new facecam pass, follow the saved-recording facecam workflow.
Is the exported MP4 transparent?
No. ScreenDuo exports a flattened MP4 of the finished composition. Remove lets the underlying video or canvas show around the camera subject inside that composition; it does not export a standalone presenter video with an alpha channel. Keep the editable project if you want to change the layout later.
For more camera-placement ideas, see the facecam recording guide.
Common questions
Do I need a green screen?
No physical green screen is required for ScreenDuo's Remove background effect. It removes the room behind the camera subject; it is not a chroma-key control.
Will Remove always give perfect edges?
No cutout is guaranteed to look identical in every scene. Preview movement and try Blur or Original if the edge distracts from the video.
Can I export the presenter over a transparent background?
No. The exported file is a flattened MP4 composition. The background is removed so the canvas shows behind you, not exported as a separate transparent camera file.
Make the reaction easy to follow
Test the camera background on a short clip.
Try the layout with footage you own or are permitted to use, then watch the exported MP4 before making a longer video.
